Travel Agents Still Exists? Are They Worth Using?
Hello Everyone!
I'm back for my second post! This one stems from an article I recently read (check it out here if you're interested). Also, I recently found out from many of my millennial friends that #1 they didn't know travel agents were still around and #2 They don't quite see the value in using them when they have all of these "wonderful" booking websites to use (more on those later).
Well, I'm here today to shine some light on those two points from my own perspective and with a little help and background knowledge from an article from a well respected home based travel agency (InteleTravel). Don't worry, I'll be informative, but brief. I promise.
Point #1: Travel agents still exist?
Yes, they do. Example numero uno; me ☺️
My umbrella company (which I'll talk much more about in later blog posts if you stick around) has about 28,000 active agents as of 7/6/18. That's a lot more than you thought right? And those are just independent (home based) travel agents like me in our company.
Point #2: Are travel agents worth using?
The obvious answer is yes and here are a few key reasons why.
You don't pay travel agents. This is the BIGGEST misconception out there. Many travelers think they pay the agents commissions. False. Their commission is paid from the vendor you're booking with. So, when you use these all so popular online booking engines, you're giving commission to these big companies instead of a lovely knowledgeable independent travel agent, like me ☺️.
Travel agents are personal. Booking search engines are not.
A good travel agent will take the time to get to know their client and their wants and needs. They will even try to throw in a few things they believe will be of interest based on the information you provided. Your travel agent can build you the perfect vacation (instead of suggesting a pre-made trip that you're trying to make fit) and may even through in a complimentary surprise or two!
Travel agents know your destination. They don't just know the location you requested, they truly KNOW the destination. Bookings engines cannot give you the intricate ins and outs for the destination you seek. The great thing about agents is they can specialize in the type of trip you're looking for. For examples a personalized Disney vacation or unforgettable European trip.
Travel agents will think of things you wouldn't. This is their JOB. They do this often and have checklists to make sure you have everything to make your trip AMAZING. They know all of the missing pieces you don't, especially for international travel, that will ensure a good trip form start to end.
